How early should my child start his/her musical training?
At Stringnote we believe learning the language of music should be undertaken as soon as possible. It’s like learning a second language, the longer you wait the less fluent you are likely to become. The quicker your child develops their musical ability the better their chance of overcoming those rhythmic and intonation problems that, in many cases, await them.
What is the aim of Stringnote’s Talent Development Programme?
The aim of the Talent Development Programme is to fully develop the natural musical abilities that children have and, at the same time, to help them to acquire music literacy.
How many Talent Development groups you have?
  • Level I groups is designed for 3 – 4 year old children.
  • These are music sessions especially designed to support the development of musical creativity in young children, practicing pitch, rhythm and raising children’s general musical awareness. These are well-planned and designed non-structured sessions to support your child’s growing creativity. Please note that a parent/career might need to be present too (no previous musical training for her/him is required).
  • Level 2 groups From 4 to 8 years old start with the formal learning of any instrument with our carpet exercises and 15 min piano under our system of minigrades. Our five minigrades prepare the children to start the official ABRSM grades and many of our children start preparing for grade 1 at the age of 6.
  • Parents of children age 5 plus can opt to go under our “piano-only” plan in which we don’t develop our music training in group but we integrate it as part of our piano lesson
My son/daughter needs extra support and I’m not sure if he/she will fit in your suggested age-related group. What can I do?
In our groups, all ages are approximate, as they may vary according to the speed of development and particular need that every child has. Because of that, if you have this type of concern, Stringnote usually offers you a Taster Session in more than a group, so your child can try and you can decide in which group he/she will have the best possibility to learn. My son/daughter is already learning a musical instrument at school. Why does my child need an extra lesson?
Because instrument lessons are usually based in the learning of pieces that will later be presented in the exam. There is no enough time, or resources, to dedicate to the ear development, harmonic perception and rhythmic training. This situation leaves a gap in your children’s musical formation and that is why our course can provide all the full support your children really need.
What are the learning subjects in the Talent Development groups?

The learning subjects are:

  • Rhythmic skills: by playing percussion instruments and learning to read rhythms in traditional music notation
  • Melodic skills: through sight-singing and other activities
  • Aural Training (in accordance with the ABRSM Aural Tests): based on the same kind of exercises given in the official tests
  • Piano Minigrade 1 to 5 and then the ABRSM standard grades.
Can I have a Free Taster session in any of these groups?
Yes, you can! Group sessions only offer a completely FREE Taster Session, booking in advance is required. Home lessons testers are always paid
